Of Nattering Nabobs of Negativism and an Effete Corps of Impudent Snobs: Yesterday and Today

The media: worse today, I think, than the media of the 60s and 70s. Back then Spiro Agnew described the liberal media thusly:

Spiro Agnew on the cover of Life Magazine, Oct. 1970[4]

“In the United States today, we have more than our share of the nattering nabobs of negativism. They have formed their own 4-H Club — the ‘hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history.’”

And on ungrateful and unruly college students, like those we have seen recently, he rightly said:

“Education is redefined at the demand of the uneducated to suit the ideas of the uneducated. The student now goes to college to proclaim rather than to learn. The lessons of the past are ignored and obliterated in a contemporary antagonism known as ‘The Generation Gap.A spirit of national masochism prevails, encouraged by an effete core of impudent snobs who characterize themselves as intellectuals.”
