Buried News Alert: Obama’s Weekend Gitmo Detainee Dump

We’ve grown accustomed to the time-honored “Friday document dump” in Washington — strategically timed releases of data and information that politicians and bureaucrats hope will disappear down the weekend news hole.

Obama administration operatives, as always, have taken transparency-dodging to new heights. Or rather, lows. They’ve perfected the art of the Gitmo detainee dump — strategically timed releases of some of the longest-remaining jihad suspects at Guantanamo Bay. It’s Saturday night and the White House is banking on your inattention.

Nine Yemeni Gitmo residents are being transferred to soft-on-jihad Saudi Arabia, the country that sent us 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers:

A detainee who had been on a hunger strike at Guantanamo Bay for nine years has been transferred out of the facility, the Obama administration announced Saturday.

According to a statement from the Defense Department, Tariq Ba Odah of Yemen has been transferred into Saudi Arabian custody along with eight other detainees, bringing the total number at the U.S. military base in Cuba down to 80… Military documents published by the transparency organization WikiLeaks suggest that the Yemeni was a suspected member of al-Qaeda.

The others released include Ahmed Umar Abdullah Al-Hikimi, Abdul Rahman Mohammed Saleh Nasir, Ali Yahya Mahdi Al-Raimi, Muhammed Abdullah Muhammed Al-Hamiri, Ahmed Yaslam Said Kuman, Abd al Rahman Al-Qyati, Mansour Muhammed Ali Al-Qatta and Mashur Abdullah Muqbil Ahmed Al-Sabri.

Mission accomplished, President Obama?

Odah and Al-Hamiri were clients of the left-wing Center for Constitutional Rights. The outfit has quite the track record when it comes to springing Gitmo detainees. As I reported in September 2012, CCR also represented Abu Sufian bin Qumu, who was released from Gitmo in 2007.  Five years later, he was named as the possible lead plotter in the bloody attacks on our consulate personnel, staff, and private security contractors in Benghazi. Here’s your refresher on Yemen, Gitmo, and jihadi recidivist revolving doors.

Here’s your background research on former Obama AG Eric Holder’s law firm Covington and Burling and its relentless campaign on behalf of Yemeni Gitmo detainees.

This weekend’s latest Gitmo detainee dump comes on the heels of dangerous transfers two weeks ago of two high-risk suspects with explosives training to Senegal, along with two more transfers of IED makers three months ago to Montenegro and Bosnia.

As of last fall, national security reporter Thomas Joscelyn reported, more than 100 ex-Gitmo recidivists are at large.

Mission accomplished, President Obama?
