[A letter from James Spickard]

As a reluctant passenger on the Donald Trump train I was appalled at the treatment given to Ted Cruz and his wife at the Republican National Convention. All were witness to the RNC’s version of the night of the long knives.

Cruz, the voice of true conservatism, was set up for a hatchet job to purge constitutional conservatives from the party. Knowing full well that Cruz would not and could not endorse Trump, establishment minions were scattered throughout the crowd leading the chants and booing the most principled man in the arena. The crowd then devolved into a boisterous mob reminiscent of what goes on outside the venue in the streets.

EDITORIAL: Trump: I will save the nation

The insiders, the media and even the so-called outsiders in the Trump campaign all seemed to be in on the ruse. The day after the convention, Trump couldn’t take his victory in stride and doubled down with another vicious rant about Cruz while Gov. Mike Pence stood by bewildered. The remarks by Gov. Chris Christie were just as childish. It’s as if they were trying to throw the election with inane commentary.

Trump is a stop-gap measure, the little Dutch Boy with his finger in the dike holding back the deluge of progressivism until America sees its mistake. Hillary Clinton and her Weather Underground crew in power is unthinkable. With the republic in jeopardy I will remain on the train but on the caboose where the brakes can best be applied.
